28.10.2026

Thestra Oy has reached another important milestone in strengthening its intellectual property portfolio: the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) granted a U.S. patent for EPLIN as a biomarker for cancer on October 20, 2026. The patent (No. 12,767,990) protects Thestra’s innovation in the use of EPLIN expression as a biomarker to assess cancer aggressiveness and support treatment selection in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC).

This U.S. patent further strengthens Thestra’s intellectual property protection in one of the world’s most important healthcare markets. It reinforces the scientific foundation of the company’s technology and supports its long-term strategy to develop and commercialize innovative cancer diagnostics.

For clinicians, laboratory partners, and future commercial collaborators, this milestone strengthens the position of Thestra’s proprietary EPLINEX® method, which aims to improve the identification of patients with aggressive head and neck cancer and support more personalized treatment decisions.

Following the grant of the European patent in April 2026, the U.S. patent represents another significant step in Thestra’s international intellectual property strategy and its mission to advance more precise cancer diagnostics.

Another important step toward more personalized cancer care.
