Thestra and Coronaria Diagnostiikka launch collaboration – the new EPLINEx® method will bring greater precision to cancer treatment guidance in the future

15.9.2026

The Finnish pioneer in cancer diagnostics, Thestra Oy, and Coronaria Diagnostiikka have signed a collaboration agreement aimed at introducing the new EPLINEx® diagnostic method into clinical use in Finland in a phased manner.

Next‑generation precision diagnostics

EPLINEx® method is an innovation of Turku University Hospital and the University of Turku, which has been further developed by Thestra Oy. Both phases have been supported by Business Finland, among others. Patented EPLINEx® method provides in‑depth information about the biological behaviour of a tumour and aims to help physicians select the most individually effective treatments for each patient. The method has the potential to reduce the need for heavy treatments, improve patients’ quality of life, and enhance the efficient allocation of healthcare resources.

Coronaria Diagnostiikka contributes strong clinical expertise, a nationwide laboratory network, and the capabilities of its pathology laboratory to the collaboration.

Clinical implementation progresses through pilot studies

Collaboration begins with a pilot phase in which EPLINEx® method will be integrated and optimised as part of Coronaria’s pathology processes. In the next phase, the method is intended to be used in analysing head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) samples collected in national research efforts. The final goal is to establish a foundation for large‑scale adoption of the method in Finland and to more precisely evaluate the functionality and benefits of EPLINEx® in real clinical practice.

Comments from the companies

Thestra Oy: “Collaboration with Coronaria enables a significant leap forward: we can begin assessing the suitability of the EPLINEx® method as part of clinical decision‑making. We want to change the way head and neck cancers are evaluated and treated.”

Coronaria Diagnostiikka: “We invest in solutions that provide physicians with more information to support decision‑making and enable increasingly personalised treatment. EPLINEx® is an excellent example of an innovation with real impact.”

Towards broader adoption

The aim of the collaboration is to create a foundation for wider implementation of the method. It highlights the strength of Finnish innovation – and above all, a commitment to better, more personalised cancer care and precision oncology.
